If you’ve spent any time watching popular lifestyle and fashion accounts on YouTube you will likely have seen a SHEIN haul or two, or three, or four…and most likely a sponsored one at that. It’s one of those brands constantly popping up on my Facebook and Instagram feeds I was starting to become very intrigued! The clothes always look nice and it’s really affordable so I finally decided to do my own, very non sponsored (obviously) little haul.
Overall, I spent £79.26 on 7 items including 2 pairs of sunglasses, 1 coat, 1 dress, 1 top, 1 pair of shorts and 1 pair of trousers, which I feel is pretty good going. This included using a discount code advertised on the site.
Now first things first, I’m generally a UK 16 (it’s definitely not where I want to be but that’s what we’re dealing with at the moment). I say this as a guide for others who may want to shop SHEIN, but we all know sizes vary hugely between stores. I like clothes a lot and generally just shop the high street and haven’t felt the need to go to specific plus size retailers ever before, but on this site, I oredered from the plus size range. Clothes on SHEIN are made in China which are generally much smaller in size than the usual UK sizes we’re used to, and I wanted these clothes to actually fit.
Ahh the fit…
As I’ve already said I was specifically looking at the plus size offerings, which went from a 0XL to a 3XL which was helpfully stated as being from a UK 16 to a UK 22. A lot of what I looked at didn’t have an 0XL option, whether these were sold out or just not available it wasn’t quite clear. In everything I sized up to a 1XL (UK 18) as it’s always better for things to be bigger than struggling to fit one leg into it…(we’ve all been there)
I was still for some reason expecting everything to be too small so was pleasantly surprised when everything fit, and was loose, I could have definitely gone for the 0XL in most items, so definitely just order your ‘usual’ size.
I find buying trousers really difficult so had literally zero expectations for these smart black culottes, but I love them! They have a stretchy panel at the back of the waist so they’re super comfy and I love the tie detail at the waist, they also have pockets which is always handy. Although the material is very thin, there’s a double layer around the bum and top of the thigh so it’s not see-through where you really wouldn’t want it to be… I bought these for work but love that they could be dressed up or down. For work I’ll probably pair them with a colourful top tucked up and some cute ballet pumps or brogues.
I love this pink top, which I bought with work wear in mind. Again, it’s pretty roomy (I tucked the sides into my bra in the photo) and I will probably need to put a little top under it to not have my boobs out in the workplace. I’d most likely put this with a black pencil skirt or some tighter trousers, as I don’t love it with the trousers I also bought from SHEIN (pictured).
This dress was the winner for me, I love the print and the shape of it, it’s so beautiful. I definitely needed a smaller size, it’s very big on top, but having the material to tie really helps give it shape and thankfully the straps are adjustable too. It’s super flowy and the split goes all the way up, so I would definitely recommend wearing some little shorts under it (unless you fancy flashing your pants, in which case, go for it). I actually think this would be great for a summer evening out or even a spring/ summer wedding outfit.
I also got two pairs of sunglasses which I love, and they both came in a handy little hard-shell case which I thought was great.
I did buy some floaty shorts which I forgot to photograph and a cosy autumnal coat, which kind of looks like a dressing gown so I’m not sure how I feel about it. But I was not about to get a cute cosy jeans and boots outfit on as it’s currently a very warm bank holiday weekend here in the UK!
Now you get what you pay for so don’t expect something extraordinary! Generally, the materials are very thin (I didn’t find it to be see-through though) and the first thing I noticed was that there were lots of threads dangling from the clothes. But to be honest, it’s probably fairly on par to the quality of Primark clothing, so it is what it is. I haven’t worn or washed anything yet so I may have to have an update if everything tears, shrinks or unravels after one wear and wash!
I had really low expectations so was pleasantly surprised by everything! Don’t size up, go with your size and you’ll have a great affordable outfit but don’t expect the best quality! All items linked below in order of mention.
