First of all, let me just say Happy New Year! I’m so excited to be back to blogging and to see all that 2019 has in store. I wanted to kick off the new year with a round up of my 2018 favourites, so let’s get into it!
Harry Potter Audio books
I’ve been a huge Harry Potter fan for a long time now, but only read some of the books when I was a child. I decided that instead of reading the series I would try the audio books. I’m currently on book four and have been absolutely loving it so far. Audio books are a great way to chill out, I love listening to it on my way to and from work and then when I’m in bed. I use audible and with the monthly subscription it makes the books so much more affordable.
I only got into false lashes in the last quarter of 2018 and I don’t understand how!? Some occasions just need a little more drama than what even the most voluminous mascara can give. So far I’ve just tested out lashes by Ardell and Eylure, both brands I really like. I still need a little more practice sticking them on, it’s not something I could do in a rush! But like everything, practice makes perfect.
The Ordinary skin care
I have not been blessed with good skin and it’s something I’ve struggled with ever since I was about 12. Nowadays my breakouts are mostly hormonal and just a good (but very annoying) indicator my period is due. I do stick to a fairly strict skincare regime and very very rarely miss washing my face! It’s something I wish I’d been better with throughout my teenage years, removing makeup properly, cleansing and moisturising. I love The Ordinary, it’s such an affordable brand that provides great simple products. I use a combination of Salicylic acid, Niacinamide + Zinc, Hyaluronic acid and the Glycolic toner (very similar to the Pixi Glow Tonic) and would definitely recommend the brand. They have a range of products which can combat numerous different skin concerns.
Too Faced Cosmetics
Too Faced are definitely one of my favourite makeup brands, especially for eyeshadow and I’ve built a pretty extensive collection. The fun branding and genuinely brilliant quality just makes them so perfect for me as I continue to love playing with makeup.
Curling my hair with GHDs
I’ve had my Platinum GHDs for a while now but for some reason could never master curling my hair with them, and always preferred a curling wand. In 2018 my hair had the chop a couple of times and as well as absolutely loving the shorter style, I now love the ease of curling it with my straighteners. It looks so natural, and continues to look great as the curls soften, definitely my favourite way to style my bob.
Lenovo Yoga Laptop
OK so I only got this laptop right before Christmas but it’s totally a favourite! I had been using a rubbish dying laptop for ages now and really wanted to treat myself, it was a pretty big expense, but I work hard for my money and is something that I will use a lot and get my moneys worth. I got the 720 model in the prettiest copper colour! (I’ll be honest the colour swayed me a little…) It’s a perfect cross over between a tablet and laptop, with touch screen and a screen that flips 360 degrees. I love being creative and drawing and I wanted the flexibility to draw on the tablet screen but have a powerful enough laptop to run all the Adobe programmes I love to use. I would highly recommend it if you’re in the market for something similar.
Charlotte Tilbury Legendary Brows Brow Gel
Another makeup favourite and it’s the Charlotte Tilbury brow gel, I got mine in the colour supermodel. I’ve tried a number of these, mostly from cheaper high street brands but none have such a tiny precise applicator. Unfortunately my brows are pretty thin (thanks for overplucking 14 year old Laura…) so some of the fatter brushes make such a mess! It holds the brows in place all day and adds a little volume which makes them look a little thicker and fuller which is definitely what I need.
I had to get this on the list really. In 2018 I had my first ever trip to Walt Disney World and I can’t ever look back. We had the most (WARNING! super huge cliché coming) magical time. I can’t express in a short paragraph how bloody fantastic it was, it’s definitely not for everyone, but it was everything to us! I hope you’re ready for some more Disney content coming soon, as I could talk about it forever!
What were your favourite things/ memories from 2018? I can’t wait to get back to regular blogging this year and share some exciting content with you all.
